Medasin is a producer and DJ who has garnered over 85 million streams online with his unbounded creativity and crafty production chops.
He’s known for his original hits like “Daydream” as well as his official remixes for the likes of Portugal. The Man, DJ Khaled, Martin Garrix, JAHKOY, and ScHoolboy Q, among many others. His sounds, available via his expansive collection of sample packs, are also adored by the music creator community, having been used to craft everything from underground releases to chart-topping hits.
In celebration of the release of his latest sample pack, Medasin sat down with us above to discuss his creative process, sound design, the art of crafting samples, and more.
“I think that the versatility of my sound is good for a Splice pack because it invites you to have fun, play, and explore,” Medasin says. “Like, if you have a sample pack and you know exactly what it’s going to be, that can be cool too if you know what you want, but I feel like my packs invite you to be like, ‘I have no idea what’s going to be in here.’ It’s like a mystery box. But, you know everything’s going to be good, so you just open the box, and then it invites you to collaborate—it invites you to be creative.”
“I’m just happy to have an imprint or influence at all on sounds and production, so if anyone uses my stuff or gets inspired by it—you can flip the sounds or morph them and do a completely different thing—that’s what excites me.”
